I got the latest cvs version this morning. Recompiled and tested. I've sended about a hundred passive host check results and not once did nagios die.

Looks like this was due to a bug in the external command circular
buffer processing logic. I posted a fix to CVS last night, so check
out the latest version from CVS and see if that fixes things.
