Error Compling Binaries

Hi

I get an error message when I try to run command 

./configure  --prefix=/usr/local/nagios - -with-cgiurl=/nagios/cgi-bin - 
-with-htmlurl=/nagios - -with-nagios-user=nagios - -with-nagios-grp=nagios

creating cache ./config.cache
checking for a BSD compatible install...  /usr/bin/install  -c
checking for gcc...  no
checking for cc... no
configure: error: no acceptable cc found in $PATH

Im using

Nagios 1.0
in
Redhat 8.0 
Kernel  2.4
