Requesting method of sending only a single notification for warnings

Thanks again to all who have helped me out thus far in my Excellent
Nagios Adventure.
I have another query now!
We're currently using PONG to monitor our systems, and one of the things
we like about it is that we only get one (1) notification when a service
enters a 'WARNING' state.
I'd hoped to use Nagios' service notification escalations in order to
emulate this behavior, but unfortunately for me, no distinction seems
to be made between WARNING and CRITICAL messages.
Has anybody else had a similar desire? Is there an as yet unknown-to-me
method for causing Nagios to send only a single notification upon
a service entering a WARNING state?
Any thoughts are most welcome!
Thank you,

John
