Regarding Mac OS 9 and below, you may be out of luck...hopefully there 
is some SNMP suite available to help monitoring. Regarding OS X, however...
Beneath the Apple Aqua interface lies a BSD core. Check out the Fink 
Project, which aims to modify open source UNIX software to run on Mac OS 
X. A cursory search shows that net-snmp (ucd-snmp) has been ported to OS X.
