Here's a couple problems I noticed when following your apan config 
directions:

1. Checks by hostname- should use nagios to resolve hosts (I believe 
this was already addresses on the list)
2. generate.cgi points to /usr/local/bin/rrdtool, regardless of what you 
set in apan.sh. This caused some confusion until I checked out my 
apache.error logs.
