Try:
Stopping nagios if you managed to get it started (i'm guessing not);
if it exists, rm nagios.cmd
start nagios using /path-to-nagios/bin/nagios
/path-to-nagios/etc/nagios.cfg;
stop nagios using favourite method;
start nagios using /etc/rc.d/init.d/nagios start
hth,
dean
p.s. there should be more in the archives. i have seen this a couple times
over the last few months.

Subject: [Nagios-users] Looked, and Looked ,and a gallon of rum and i still
don't know... ..
I am having a problem that I can not seem to fix. The "old command file
problem". I have looked back in the threads and only found one message from
todd.jones at weirslurry.com <mailto:todd.jones at weirslurry.com> with any
similar problem, but I did not see a resolution. Nagios works fine, no
problem if I run it from a command line. When I add it to init.d the
external command file acts up. I get command file
'/usr/local/nagios/var/rw/nagios.cmd' the external command file may be
missing. The rights are:
drwxrwsrwx 2 nagios nagiocmd 4096 Sep 20 12:16 .
drwxrwxr-x 6 nagios nagiocmd 4096 Sep 23 07:21 ..
prw-rw---- 1 nagios nagiocmd 0 Sep 20 12:16 nagios.cmd
if anyone has any ideas please let me know... I can not afford much more
rum...
mike
