Newbie question

OK.  Sorry to point this out but: Why does everyone assume that explaining
a *NIX file system issue in terms of M$ Windows terminology would clarify
hidden files at all?

I would think that in the interest of explaining things, M$ references
would be towards the end of the list of cogent examples.
