Latching state on failure

set your 'retry_check_interval' in your service to something insanely
high.

one year is 33053184 minutes.  one month is 2678400 minutes.

make sure you adjust your notification_interval appropriately or you'll
be an unhappy on-call admin.

If you don't check more often than that...I dunno why you'd care what
its state is :)
