distributed monitoring question

I am thinking of implementing a distributed monitoring environment soon
but I am wondering if I should wait till the next version of Nagios
(2.0) comes out.  It looks like this version has many new features (such
as passive host checks) that will make distributed much easier).  I have
a server that is doing 1738 services for 1277 hosts and it is getting a
little slow :).

Any idea when 2.0 might be coming out... looks like the to-do list in
the upcoming section has shrunk down to only 1 item!
