radius checks and dialin connections

that dialin monitoring alternatives include 

 1 the standard check_radius plugin

 2 driving a ppp client on a modem equipped Nag monitor with Expect or 
   the Perl Expect module to simulate

   . dial connection to the NAS/RAS

   . RADIUS authentication

   . IP/TCP param allocation by NAS/RADIUS.

My employer uses the latter method successfully.
