What version of plugins do you have? Here's my results:

HTTP ok: HTTP/1.1 401 Access Denied - 0.004 second response time

[root at mindseye nagios]# /usr/lib/nagios/plugins/check_http -V
check_http (nagios-plugins 1.3.1) 1.24.2.4
