Parent of nagios?

Yes. Sort of. Understand that notifications are not automagically
suppressed. This scenario would cause Nagios to see host A as
UNREACHABLE. If you do not have your configuration setup to send
notifications on UNREACHABLEs, then yes, notifications are suppressed.

No. Nagios will still be able to see host A.

Maybe. I'll let someone else answer this. I belive that dependency
configurations will override the parent/child relationships. But you'll
have to read the docs further to find out if this is truly the case.
