problem with hostextinfo

The problem is that I use the Debian standard packages, not a version
I've compiled myself. But since I've tried the three different ways 
(that I know of) to specify hostextinfo, I hoped at least one of them
would work.

I've told PostgreSQL to trace SQL queries, and no query on the 
hostextinfo or serviceextinfo tables is done... 

Is this possible that the packager entirely disabled by mistake
even a minimal support for extended info ?
