Did you try to use the IP at the host definitionen?
define host {
...
host_name <some_name>
address <some_ip>
..}
define service {
...
host_name <some_name>
...
}
Then $HOSTADRESS$ should contain the IP address of the host. It's only
an idea, because I don't use nagios 2 yet. the $HOSTADDRESS$ macro is
only aviable at nagios 2.x.
