Dear All,
Hi, This is Hal. Nice to see you.
I'm trying to use Nagios 1.2 in my Lab. I have a problem about
its Hostcheck. Please give me advices.
== MY ENVIRONMENT ==
I made 60 hosts which are virtual machines on VMWare and check
over 600 services by Nagios 1.2 and its plugin1.4a1. Each host
has independent MAC and IP address. 20 hosts(hostname are "k***")
are located in my side (LAN), and other 40 Hosts(hosyname are "b***")
are located over VPN (WAN). It was working fine before VPN has
been down.
Hostname rule : my side (LAN) "b***"
over VPN(WAN) "k***"
It seems this rule is the point of my problem.
== MY TEST RESULT ==
When VPN connection had been down, Nagios started hostcheck to
each host(B***) over the VPN. But in this time, Nagios checked
nothing to the hosts(K***) are located in my side(LAN), until
finish completely the hostcheck to "B***". It took 28 minutes to
re-check the hosts(K***) in my side(LAN) by Nagios, cause there
were 40 host over VPN. I noticed it from Nagios log file.
My configurations in this time are below (default setting).
40 Host x 10sec (ping timeout) x 4 times (hostcheck)
= 1600sec
= 26min 30sec
=:= nearly 28min(from my log)
I tried to test with test configurations. In this case, the time
which Nagios checked nothing was 90sec(from log file).
40 Host x 1sec (ping timeout) x 1 times (host check)
= 40sec
=/= 90sec (from my log) but nearly equal(?)
I understand that Nagios decide turn to check by hostname from
source code. So, it seems to take much time(like above) to check
the host "K***".
== My QUESTIONS ARE ==
1) Does Nagios1.2 Hostcheck sequence work Serially ? And does Nagios
1.2 stop all check(host/service) during hostcheck to one host ?
Is this result fit to its specifications ? OR are there some point
I should re-configure, except for hostname :p ?
2) How about Nagis 2.0b1 ? , if above is fit to its specifications.
Is anyone already try it ?
Thanks for your help.
Hal
