NRPE with Apan?

If you've since managed to hack Apan to handle NRPE2 then I'd be interested

Has anyone hacked Apan to use check_nrpe?  Seems like it would be relatively
simple but I don't want to reinvent the wheel. I will be using my own
homebrew
plugins over NRPE.
