Unable to schedule or force a host services check

All,

I'm having a problem where all services are passive and host checks are not getting scheduled when the status of the service changes.

Manual scheduling of all services on the host, either regular or forced does not work. Nagios appears to ignore them. Check freshness is enabled as well.

I haven't been able to find anything on this in the lists.

Does anyone know if there's a way of changing a host status back again short of restarting Nagios without retaining status information, which is what I've had to do?

Can I change the host status in MySQL myself without breaking Nagios?
