That's just plain not true.
I run several 'patchlevels' of RedHat9, and I only compile my plugins
once on an RH9 machine.
I run stuff compiled on/for RedHat on Mandrake all the time.
When there's an RPM, but not for your platform, you sometimes have to
just use what they give you.
For example, I run Yahoo! Messenger (because GAIM is broken right now)
on the same Mandrake 10 (cooker) workstation I'm emailing this message
from. Now, if you go to http://messenger.yahoo.com/ you'll see that
there is no Mandrake distribution. How does it work, then?
Microcom. Microcom comes pre-compiled for Mandrake 6.0! It runs FINE
on Mandrake 10. I re-compiled it for my machine, but I ran it for about
an hour with the pre-compiled version because I was in a hurry.
So, you're really just spreading FUD.
