Try running the nagios_check command as the user your web server runs
as. You can also go to
http://your.nagios.machine/cgi-bin/extinfo.cgi?&type=0 (or click
'Process Info' on the left menu) to get a hint about what might be
wrong. One thing to be aware of is that if you've installed Nagios such
that it uses a DB for host/service status storage the default
check_nagios command will not work. You'll need to use
check_nagios_db.pl from the plugins contrib.
