I have been running nagios for over a month and have only seen one such false
alarm. It has been rock solid for me. Have you ruled out the possibilty
that it is a sporadic network fault?
If I were in your shoes, I would set up another program to run a continuous
ping at the same time and see if that shows a fault at the same time that
nagios fails.
