Sorry I should have been more clear... I am having to send the send-ncsa
alert with the service name of a service that is setup for active checks
otherwise it does not work. So what I have done is setup a service that
I don't actually want but I now use the service name to send my passive
service to.
Basically I was wondering how you go about setting a passive service up
altogether ?

That's the way it's supposed to work. You might want to read the
documentation.
