That's just incorrect. The host does NOT have to be in a hostgroup to be 
checked. Mark, please don't give false answers. Check the documentation 
if you're not sure. Wrong answers leads to all sorts of following 
misunderstandings.

That depends on the check. A check that always return OK just isn't any 
good.
