This is what you HAVE to do. The server-side nrpe must be built on the
server being monitored. The client-side check_nrpe must be built on the
server doing the monitoring.
Make sure NRPE is running on the server being monitored, and check the
syslog on that same server.

Make heavy use of ldd on both computers and make sure all the required
libraries are there. Try running check_nrpe without specifying a command
and make sure you get something back before experimenting with anything
else.
