All the Nagios GUIs are a little rough around the edges. I've used
NagMIN fairly extensively, and yes, it can scan networks and discover
hosts automatically.
Unfortunately, NagMIN 2.3 still hasn't come out yet, and 2.2 lacks the
proper startup scripts. You have to set up 2.1 first, then upgrade to
2.2 if you want that version.
