Notification problem

Well that's good. Do you get any errors relating to not being able to find the sendmail program? If not, then does the nagios user (whoever the nagios process is running as) have permission to execute the mailer? (try an email test as the nagios user)
If all that works fine, its not an MTA issue, and you can start looking for errors in the your cfg files. (specifically contactgroups.cfg, misccommands.cfg, hosts.cfg and services.cfg)
This may sound menial, but I have ran into all these problems myself. Although it has been sometime since I have had to resolve them. :)

Drew,
Yes, I did the test, and it works. I have sendmail in my linux system, but I still can't get email from nagios. I set the notification interval of one host as 60, and the state of the host is down, so I think nagios should send me email every 1 hour if there is any problem with the host, but I can't get email which notifies me this host is down.
Thanks.
Chris

Nagios is not and does not contain an MTA. You must have some way to move mail off of the box to a 'real' mail server. On my gentoo box I emerge mailx and all is good. Otherwise postfix and sendmail (while overkill, they work) work fine as well.
If you can move mail off of the nagios host server, then most more details about what you are doing. Simple mail test:
[server]$echo test | mail root at foo.bar -s test
You should receive an email with test as the subject and test in the body. If you do not, then you need to install an MTA as mentioned above.
Hope this helps-
