Running two nagios instances on same host

Hi,
 
I am wondering if it is possible / recommended to run two nagios instances on the same host. The idea is two have one instance on production while another instance is running on test where modifications can be made without stopping , restarting the one in production.
 
Anyone has tried it?
Any pros/cons?
