NSClient++ is indeed a highly interesting project. I will definitively test NSClient++ as soon as I can.
Some feedback...

I would say skip the drop in. It's no big deal to change the config settings since (as you said) you need to replace the .exe file anyways.

I made a batch file that made a directory and copied the needed files, put the configuration into the Windows registry and started NSClient as a service. Just let me know if you'd like to see the batch file. It's very basic stuff, but still makes installation a lot faster and simpler (compared with doing it manually).

In my opinion, you should definitively post to this list but I can't speak for everyone here.

I agree with Andreas Ericsson here. Using an alternative port (maybe a high one) would be a good idea. Port conflicts is no fun dealing with...

Hi,

I have just released RC1 of NSClient++ it has basic functionality and supports most of the basic commands of NSClient. (only REQ_COUNTER, REQ_FILEAGE and REQ_INSTANCES are missing).
It can be found at http://sourceforge.net/projects/nscplus/
Simple installation instructions:
Unzip to a directory of you choice, run "NSClient++ /install" to install the service definition and then "NSCLient++ /start" to start the service. If you rather not run it as a service run "NSClient++ /test" to start the program interactively. A few important things: be sure to comment out either ConsoleLogger.dll or FileLogger.dll depending on if you run it interactively or as a service. Also note that this by default binds to port 1234 (as to not collide with NSClient). Check out readme.txt for details on how to install / configure and use the application.
As for resources/leaks I ran this for about 24 hours on a few of our servers during yesterday polling about 5 times each second without much impact (used 2.2Mb memory and pretty much no CPU, according to ProcExp www.sysinternals.com)

**IMPORTANT**
Don't go changing all you NSClient's as of yet, this is a work in progress, settings/options/things might change and you will have to do it all over again, but please feel free to test this on all your installations :)

A few things I am interested in (read feedback):
1, Does it work on <insert strange hardware/software/setup here>?
2, Does it work as expected?
3, Settings is not 100% compatible with NSClient, should I add an option "settings=read from nsclient" or similar to make it a *drop in* replacement?
To me this feels a bit excessive as you need to "install" the exe file anyway so you might as well fix your own custom config and install that as well.
4, Installation procedure? (I don't really know at all how people generally installs these kinds of things so feedback here would be interesting)
5, How does: Counters work, can someone send me an example of this ?
6, How does REQ_FILEAGE work? (I can find no documentation in check_nt for this command.)
7, How does REQ_INSTANCES work? (I can find no documentation in check_nt for this command.)
8, Should I post to this list ? (should I move this to "my own" list)

Regards,
