Service dependencies to hosts

Hi everyone,

  I'm using Nagios 2.0b2 and I've noticed that when a host with multiple
services goes down, it warns me for each service when it dies and
recovers.  Can someone clarify the way to set it up so that it warns me
only for the host?  I know it's supposed to check if the host is alive
first through the check_host_alive plugin, but that doesn't seem to
work... thanks!
