occasionally losing /var/tmp/nagios directory

Occasionally we see nagios coming down with no reason. When trying to 
restart it we find that /var/tmp/nagios directory is missing. After I 
re-create and chown it to nagios and restart, everything is OK.
Any fixes for this?
