Excellent point.
Google "passwordless ssh" for a plethora of how-to docs for generating a public key, and using it to run commands without the "password prompt", which is how the plugins work. with check_by_ssh. The emphasis, and intent here is that you are only setting this for the nagios account, and not as a global option.
Remember, the authorized_keys is only located in ~/.ssh of the remote host, and is not required on the nagios monitor server.
