The "proper" thing to pass back to Nagios can be whatever you want
 to monitor.

 

For example			



 [ "$TEMP" -gt "$CRITHITEMP" ]

        then

                echo "CRITICALLY hot at $TEMP degrees F"

                exit 2                          #EXIT WITH CRITICAL



Nagios looks for your exit status and in this case passed the contents
 within " " back to the UI.
