And? do you have ^^^^^^^^^^^^^ ?
I think (you did not give any info about this) that the command is defined
with something like $USER1$/check_ping and $USER1$ is empty, so that
$USER1$/check_ping is translated into /check_ping.

Look into your configuration. Post the definition of check_ping, and along
the info where you set the variables used in there.
