Hello,

Can I use an IP address instead of a DNS name for hosts in my /usr/local/nagios/etc/servers/hosts.cfg file? Is this the only place where I can define hosts to be monitored by Nagios? I can ping the host below but cannot monitor it even when I use a fully qualified DNS name for this host.

Curently, my host file looks like this:

define host {
       use             host-template
       host_name       192.168.0.2
       alias           192.168.0.2
       address         192.168.0.2
       }
define service {
        use             service-http
        host_name       192.168.0.2
        }

I have also tried:

define host {
       use             host-template
       host_name       dns.fmr.com
       alias           dns.fmr.com
       address         dns.fmr.com
       }
define service {
        use             service-http
        host_name       dns.fmr.com
        }

Do you see any config problems?

Thanks,
Zaeme.
