That depends on how your notification commands are set up. Nagios
doesn't send mail by itself; it will use whatever commands you have
configured for it to send its notifications.
The default in the example configs (in misccommands.cfg) is to use the
"mail" command.

Im trying to get email notifications working on my nagios box. I have
created a new contact with an email address and set him to be notified
by email. I have assigned him to the contact group for a host.
Now, do I need to go as far as to setup a mail server on the linux box,
or are there some email orientated settings in nagios somewhere that
tell it how to deliver the email (as in what mail server to use) ?
