How to disable check-host-alive

Hi all!
I read the following from the Nagios manual:
check_command: [...] If you leave this argument blank, the host will
not be checked - Nagios will always assume the host is up. This is
useful if you are monitoring printers or other devices that are
frequently turned off.
I want to use it for my Nagios server (Nagios 3). In addition to
check-host alive is no sense in the Nagios server, my check-host-alive
command checks the NRPE daemon is listening. But leaving empty
check_command in the host definition to generate an error for me.
Error: Host check command '(null)' specified for host 'sparky' is not
defined anywhere!
I'm missing something from the documentation?
Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Daniel
