Nagios strips quotes from command arguments

I thought so as well. However, it also says:
# ILLEGAL MACRO OUTPUT CHARACTERS
# This option allows you to specify illegal characters that are
# stripped from macros before being used in notifications, event
# handlers, etc. This DOES NOT affect macros used in service or
# host check commands.
Just in case the comment was false, I tried removing the " from this
list to no effect.
