Not getting alerts through email.

OS Fedora 8
Nagios -3.0b6
Nagios-Plugins 1.4.10
I followed the above documentation

vi /usr/local/nagios/etc/objects/contacts.cfg
edit
define contact{
contact_name biju
use generic-contact
alias Biju Augustine
email biju at essentiaserve.com
}

Please let me know what are the thing ie email id host name shall I need to add
Verify the sample Nagios configuration files.
/usr/local/nagios/bin/nagios -v /usr/local/nagios/etc/nagios.cfg
no errors. restarted the nagios services and it's working fine. But i
am not getting any mail alerts or any notifications.
can you please let me know shall i need to add any thing more in vi
/usr/local/nagios/etc/objects/contacts.cfg
please advice
