$SERVICEOUTPUT$ missing from emails.. Nagios 3.2.1

Have you verified that your MTA is operating correctly? Try sending
mail from the command line (echo "test 1" | mail -s "test 1"
email at address.com) and see if that goes through, before you suspect
Nagios.
