It seems that this is the same problem as in
http://lists.us.dell.com/pipermail/linux-poweredge/2012-January/045834.html
(Here is also R510, PERC H700, Debian 6, Kernel 2.6.32, megaraid_sas
00.00.04.01)
This means, that the status is never or sporadically updated.
The solution is to use a newer megaraid_sas kernel-module, or a newer
kernel.
