It says "service timed out" which seems to mean it's either
firewalled, or otherwise didn't respond (bad input, etc). Are you
able to interact with that service from the nagios machine in some
other way?
I believe the -s and -e strings are normal "strings", not hex-encoded.
You might use -s "`printf "\x02"`" -e "`printf "\x06"`" (that may need
to be double escaped depending on context).
