Nagios stops sending notifications - sometimes

hi all

the following problem has been hunting me for some time now. at times, nagios 
stops sending at all. errors are logged and status is changed, but no 
notifications are sent. I've double-checked configuration files, but I can't 
find anything.

I've also seen similar emails in the archives, but I haven't found any 
solutions.
