missing nagios.lock file

Nagios creates a nagios.lock file in the var directory when Nagios is
successfully started. If for some reason, when you try starting Nagios,
it doesn't start up, you will get this message because Nagios isn't
running (the script returns the status of Nagios after it tries starting
- in this case the status is that the start didn't work).
Did you run nagios -v to check your config files? My guess is there is
an error in your configs that prevented nagios from starting up. If
nagios -v doesn't return any errors, make sure that all the paths in
your nagios.cfg are correct (nagios -v doesn't always catch errors here).
