image scale and check timeout

hi all, here is my question:
1. how to scale the image size (it work when on hosts list) when we create
the status map ?
2. i got error when testing smtp, it said "Socket timeout after 10 seconds"
3. could nagios wait about 5 minutes before send any warning ?
