SMTP Failure

I experienced the exact same problem after upgrading Nagios and the
plugins to the newest version, and at the same time moving the
monitoring server away from DMZ. The problem occured only on some
SMTP-servers, and I was not able to tell the difference between the
hosts it worked on and those that it timed out on.

After troubleshooting everything else (Nagios configs, the firewall,
the network, the mail servers), I downgraded the check_smtp plugin
from v1.2 to v1.1.1.1, and it worked perfectly on all hosts.
