Additional inquiry on nagios check interval

You have to set 'normal_check_interval' for each service (or template) i
n services.cfg.
Then, restart nagios..

To all,

I have addt'l inquiry regarding the check interval
time of nagios. 

I want to know and change the configuration of the
nagios regarding the time in which it will start the
monitoring or checking of all the hosts and services.I
want to setup my nagios such that it will start to
check the hosts and services every 30 minutes or 1 hr.

I have edited th nagios.cfg and changed the
check_interval and freshness interval but it looks
like it has still no effects.
