Submitting passive check results manually

If I go to the External Command Interface and attempt to submit a
passive check result for a service (I.E. A trap is not sent out when the
service resorts to the Ok state) I enter the information in and I.E.
just sits there busy. I have just browser to another page and the
service never gets updated. Any ideas?
