host checks and notifications

hi!

maybe simply question:

how often does Nagios execute check-host-alive command? I havent found
that configuration (e.g check interval on hosts.cfg) anywhere.

In addition to: Obviously Host notification is sending only if a host
state is changing? 

If I am right, so what is the meaning of host notification_interval?
