Monitoring protocols

that ntop is pretty good for this purpose (although since I am only
using it for protocol accounting and collecting stats for RRDs, perhaps
it's a bit of overkill) and that if you are considering hardware, the
Packeteer products look reasonable.

They also do response time monitoring for application performance (end 
to end) monitoring.

If anyone has any experience with this equipment, I would appreciate 
your (private) comments.
