problems compiling NSCA 2.3 on solaris 8

I have been unable to compile NSCA 2.3 on Solaris 8.  I installed all the
prerequistes (libmcrypt-2.5.7, mcrypt-2.6.4, and mhash-0.8.18) just fine,
but everytime I try to make NSCA I get the following error:

# make
cd ./src/; make all ; cd ..

gcc -g -O2 -DHAVE_LIBMCRYPT -I/usr/local/include -DHAVE_CONFIG_H

nsca.c:867: error: long, short, signed or unsigned used invalidly for
`packet_crc32'
make[1]: *** [nsca] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory `/export/home/cxadmin/nsca-2.3/src'
