You can check https with the check_http plugin, just make sure you have
all the requirements met before compiling.

We are actually testing this right now, I have a postponed email with a
patch in it that I was going to send out as soon as we were comfortable
with it. We just added the functionality to check_smtp
email me off list if you are brave enough to go ahead and give the
check_smtp plugin a try, I should be done testing this week though, if
you'd rather wait.
